VSA is an international organization that creates learning opportunities through the arts for people with disabilities. Founded in 1974 by Jean Kennedy Smith as an affiliate of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the organization offers programs in creative writing, dance, drama, music and the visual arts. VSA also maintains the VSA Galleries in Washington, D.C. and Beverly Hills, California. The Galleries host emerging and established artists with disabilities.

The hotline, launched by the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation in cooperation with the Americans for the Arts (formerly the American Council for the Arts), is now run by the New York Foundation for the Arts, a nonprofit arts service organization. Artists can speak directly with hotline staff between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. (EST), Monday through Friday.
