The School of Fine Arts, founded in 1894, is today considered one of the premier art schools in the country. Over 450 undergraduate and graduate students pursue courses in art history and studio practice. Studio programs include ceramics, drawing and painting, graphic design, metalsmithing and jewelry design, photography, textiles, printmaking, and sculpture.

The Indianapolis Art Center is a not-for-profit community arts organization that strives to make art accessible to all people and to enhance people's lives through art. With 13 studios, the Indianapolis Art Center offers over 160 classes in a variety of media during three semesters each year. Classes are offered on all levels, from beginner to advanced, amateur to professional. Eight exhibition spaces allow for nearly 30 exhibitions per year; these exhibitions focus on national, regional and local artists. The Basile Gallery Gift Shop showcases local and regional artists as well and features handmade original art. The Kentucky School of Craft is a new professional crafts school affiliated with Hazard Community College and is part of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). The school is located in Hindman, Ky., a small town in the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky. Hindman is known for its history of education and support of the crafts. The Kentucky School of Craft aspires to become a national and international model for craft education as part of community development, exemplary in its programs and outcomes. Its mission is "to train people to start and expand craft and craft-related businesses that create high-quality works based on the regional traditions of design and workmanship." Students at The Kentucky School of Craft will be able to obtain a variety of certificates and degrees through Hazard Community College. Courses of study in five media areas include jewelry/metals, wood, clay, blacksmithing and fibers.
